Testimony of Keith
Jenkins (UK).
International Co-ordinator for Servants of the
Lord Ministries
A story of someone who found the
Kingdom of God
Keith is a Civil
Engineering Consultant as well as an Ordained
minister. He was brought up in a Christian home
but avoided going to church regularly. Keith did
well at school and eventually went on to a very
high level of education. At sixth-form he was
challenged with the Gospel and accepted Christ as
Saviour at the age of 18. It was the love of God
that he felt that made him realise this was real.
However, after a time he became very busy and got
involved with working in the church and
eventually lost the joy that he had at his
Salvation. Keith did not realise that God
required him to change. The situation was also
made worse. Keith went to a church where others
had lost the joy and had become religious church
goers. Determined and also afraid of becoming
like these sad looking people he tried to be the
best "Christian" he could be. Keith was
looking for a close walk with God but there was
no one to show him how to get to know God in a
personal, intimate way.
He was studying
for a PhD. at Queen's University when he first
heard this message of knowing God personally. It
was in 1987, when Keith went to a meeting and
heard Rev. Joseph Hedgecock speak in Belfast,
Northern Ireland. The message was very real.
Joseph spoke of being able to hear the voice of
the Lord at all times. Even though Keith heard
what was said, he was so involved with church
activities and his own ministry. Time dragged on
and the pressures of life started to crowd in.
Having got a job to pay the bills, Keith started
out with very little money and a long way from
home. It was here that Keith finally met Jesus as
Lord of his life. When he was shown the state of
his own life before God and humbled, Keith went
through a deep breaking. Keith knew he had done
many things wrong trying to serve God. Like Paul
in Romans 7 he had struggled and the feeling of
failure was very clear. But it was the love of
God that broke him not the pressure of failure.
He realised he was a wretch before God but He
just felt the Father Love Him. He had been
running from an image of God the Father as a hard
task master. His own fear had kept him back from
sharing every moment with the Lord and abiding
all the time in the presence of God. He stopped
fighting against the Lord and a new way of life
began.
Now Keith has
found the way to knowing God intimately and has
learnt to hear God's voice clearly. This is a
promise for every one of his children. We are
exhorted to make every effort to enter the
Kingdom. This was the promise of entering the
"Rest" (Hebrews 4). Keith now has a
testimony that he can talk and fellowship clearly
with God. It is normal for him to ask God a
question and get an answer immediately seconds.
He has ceased from his own labours and has learnt
to depend on His voice. Getting to know the Lord
in this way has developed his understanding of
the Father and founded a personal relationship
for God to direct him as Lord. Naturally, after
several years of hearing God, he was ordained and
now ministers in England, travelling and sharing
his testimony in 10-15 countries each year in
Europe. Keith has the privilege of helping many
of God's children get to know their Heavenly
Father the way they should, and hear His voice.
